This is a test of loot linking inside a PHP BB forum. It could be made to work equally on any forum, provided the server's also capable of running an ASP.NET page.

I can add loot links to my posts just by knowing the name of the item I want. No complicated markup required.

Vitali quite fancies some High Warlord's Leather Spaulders, just because they're excessive.

Of course people used to drool over the stylish Sulfuras, Hand of Ragnaros, but it's not as excessive as it used to be.

Some items may need disambiguating, for example, Fel Leather Boots, as wowhead returns multiple results for this name. Just click the link to see what I mean.

This is easily done by giving the item number, which you can find by viewing an item in wowhead or thottbot and then looking for it in the URL.

Here's an item numbered reference: Fel Leather Boots.

And another: Pattern: Fel Leather Boots.

If I get the item number right, the name doesn't matter: Pattern: Bel Feather Loots. Notice I got the name wrong, but it's corrected once the item is loaded.

How Do I Make It Work?

You just use special BBCode, which I've sorted out already. Here's this post as I wrote it:

Code:

Guild Changes on Wednesday, Please Read - Goffgob (Game Chat)

Subject: Guild Changes on Wednesday, Please Read
Dear Vanguard,

Recently we have found ourselves spending a lot of time considering the future direction of the guild. After much thought, we feel that as warm and friendly as it is, the guild cannot offer the full range of game experience that we desire.

The Vanguard has been going for over a year now. Apart from the original four of us, the core group of players has changed over time, with people dropping in and out due to perfectly understandable real life considerations. Despite the 10 level 60 characters in the guild, we only have four regular players online at the same time. For all the end game content, we need to field parties of five or more, and in a guild of our size, this is difficult to arrange.

Even though the Vanguard does have up and coming characters for whom level 60 is not too far away, we have realised that this still won't allow us the breadth of gameplay and roleplay that having a variety of high level characters should offer. Even in the Vanguard's distant future, there is no prospect of all these characters experiencing all the high level instances, raids and other end game content.

And so we feel that, sad as it is for us near the Vanguard's first anniversary, the guild has reached the end of its shelf life. It's been great fun, but if we're going to keep playing Warcraft, we want more out of the game.

So this Wednesday (12th July) we'll be dissolving the guild. Goffgob, Getitka and Mormanik have approached a larger guild, Unspeakable Villiany, who seem like a good bunch of people.

What you'd like to do now is up to you. You might want to form your own guild(s), or look at some of the other guilds that are out there. If you do want to put your own guild together, we'd be more than happy to help you fill the guild charter with signatures from our alts. When and if we've joined the Villiany, which we're hoping could be by the end of the week, we'll be in a position to let people know who to whisper in the Villiany if you're also interested in joining them. The Villiany seem open to this idea, as they are interested in good people.

Whatever happens, we'll be keeping the DraenorVanguard chat channel open, which you can join with "/join DraenorVanguard". We'll be chatting on there in and out of character and still very much open to talking, making stuff for people and generally helping out.

We would like to wish all of you all the best, and hope to see you around beating up demons, Alliance, and anything else that needs a good Vanguard-style kicking. And with luck we'll see you in the bar.

Yours,

Goff, Get and Morm.

recently i have descovered that there is very little in the way of dragonscale leatherworks so i need to make the most of what i have to improve myself further. currently green dragonscales seem to be the way forward.

so untill further notice i will be trying to go into the sunken temple when ever i have the chance and help from the guild would be greatly appreciated when ever possible (i will be more than happy to attempt to compensate you for your troubles in what ever way i can)

and of course yourselfs would benifit finacially from going with me aswell.
Figured I would take some time to get a list up 'ere as well for future reference. Generally if I can pick da daisies, I don't mind goin' on a trek to find some when I'm bored but if ya want me to try mixin' somethin' up then to make a batch, I'll generally need da bits because I don't keep a full stock of 'erbs at all times. Aye, and if ya need Wildvine or somethin' then ask because I often have a couple in da bank.

Gonna try 'n' organise this. It isn't a full list (stuff like troll's blood and various oils may get added later). Mostly jus' the buffing potions, I might expand it later. It be in sections to make it easier to add to and find da right bit for da 'erbal supplement/remedy ya need.

Aye, I might add some other special ingredients so be nice to me or they might be da bad special type

Subject: How weapon skill affects your %hit
Posted: Mon Jul 03, 2006 3:23 pm (GMT 0)
Topic Replies: 9

Weapon skill may be considered the compliment to Defense, as follows. Each point of weapon skill you have which exceeds your opponent's Defense grants +0.04% to hit and to crit. Each point of Defense your opponent has which exceeds your Weapon Skill penalises you -0.04% to hit and to crit.

Mobs have a Defense equal to their level x5, so a level 60 mob has 300 Defense. You need 300 weapon skill to be on equal footing with that mob. If you have 305 weapon skill vs a level 60 mob, you get +0.2% to hit and +0.2% to crit.

This is particularly useful against level 60 instance bosses, who are generally level 63 despite their "Level ?? Boss" title. This means they have 315 Defense. With 300 weapon skill (the maximum without bonuses on your items), you're penalised by -0.6% to hit and -0.6% to crit. Extra weapon skill slightly redresses the balance here.

+%hit gear appears more useful than +weapon skill, since crits require a hit in the first place, and since it's easier to aquire +1% to hit than it is to aquire +25 Weapon Skill (for +1% to hit and +1% to crit).

For a hunter, I'd still go with Agility.

In reply to Daxiss post:

This is indeed data for autoshot: but nearly all hunter special shots are unaffected by %crit and DPS. Arcane Shot, for example, does eg. 100 arcane damage, fires immediately, not contributing to or altering your normal DPS. I agree that %hit gear will affect it, but none of the other variables here will. The majority of a hunter's damage over a long fight comes from straight DPS (check out DamageMeters whilst playing a hunter for confirmation of this).

(Edit: The only hunter shots which are affected by %crit and damage are multi-shot and aimed shot. Multi-Shot is generally inadvisable unless mobs are literally about to go down, towards the end of a fight; or it's used as a tactical shot to bounce mobs between targets, where the damage is less important than the effect achieved. Aimed Shot is great for taking out green mobs, esp. with good crit gear, but isn't awfully useful in instances as it generates a lot of aggro, and against mobs of equal level doesn't do noticably more damage than auto-shots over the equivalent time period. Indeed it can reduce the benefit of %crit gear, since many less shots are fired, which offsets its larger crit bonus damage.)

But for the heck of it, let's try this out with Arcane Shot. Arcane Shot has a 5 second cooldown. Assuming sufficient mana, the hunter can get off 40 Arcane Shots in 200 seconds. With a base chance of 96% to hit, 40x0.96 = 38.4 of these will hit. If they do 100 arcane damage each, that's 3840 extra damage.

So let's modify my last example, 20 Agility trinket vs 2% to hit trinket. With an extra 2% to hit, 40x0.98 = 39.2 arcane shots hit, doing 3920 extra damage.

So:

20 Agility: 10,258.11 + 3840 = 14,098.11 damage over 200 seconds.
+2% to hit: 10,290 + 3920 = 14,210 damage over 200 seconds.

So hammering the target full of arcane shot, your +2% to hit gear does prove better by 112 damage over 200 seconds, or 0.56 damage per second.

There are some disadvantages though. Firstly this approach is going to pull your mob off the tank, meaning you have to go to melee for long enough to negate your extra damage. Secondly that's a whole lot of mana!

I certainly wouldn't rule out +%hit gear, but I wouldn't swap out Agility gear for it unless I could get say 3% to hit instead of 20 agility. Given that 3% to hit probably requires swapping out at least 2 items until you're epic specced, and given that it's easy for a hunter to get 30 or more agility on 2 items, not to mention other bonuses, I don't see myself swapping.

On the other hand, if you can find an item with +Agi and +to hit%, then you could be onto a winner, provided the Agi bonus is vaguely reasonable.

Let's cut things a bit finer. Let's take the winner from our Agility vs Crit competition above, and fight it against tiny +%hit gear.

Which is better:

Trinket of Agility
Equip: +15 Agility

Trinket of Accuracy
Equip: +1% Chance to hit

The situation is as before; 200 DPS, 100 shots at 2.0 speed; 5% base crit chance, 96% base hit chance, no special shots.

Base damage is: 10,080 damage over 200 seconds
Damage with Trinket of Agility: 10,212.84 damage over 200 seconds

With +1% chance to hit:

Since 97 shots will now hit, and each of those has a 5% chance to crit, 97x0.05 = 4.85 shots will now crit; the remaining 92.15 will hit for normal damage.

92.15 x 200/2.0 + 4.85 x 400/2.0 = 9215 + 970 = 10,185 damage over 200 seconds.

So Agility wins this round. Let's upgrade our trinkets...

Trinket of Mondo Agility
Equip: +20 Agility

Trinket of High Accuracy
Equip: +2% Chance to hit

20 Agility grants (amongst other things) +40 ranged AP (+2.8 DPS) and +0.38% chance to crit. Of 96 shots, 96x0.0538 = 5.1648 shots will crit, the remaining 90.8352 hitting for normal damage.

90.8352 x 202.8/2.0 + 5.1648 x 405.6 = 9210.69 + 1047.42 = 10,258.11 damage over 200 seconds.

Whereas 2% chance to hit means that 98 shots now hit, of which 98x0.05 = 4.9 shots crit, the remaining 93.1 shots hitting for normal damage.

93.1 x 200/2.0 + 4.9 x 400/2.0 = 9310 + 980 = 10,290

So over 200 seconds, the 2% chance to hit gear causes 31.89 more damage, or +0.15945 DPS. Remember that's not a percentage, that means you go from 200DPS to ~200.16 DPS. Oo. Still, the +hit% gear wins.

Of course the Agility gear still gives you other bonuses, as stated. So I wouldn't swap out 20 Agility's worth of gear just for +2% Chance to hit.

That is just data for autoshot. Also take into account that if you are hitting a higher percentage of times, you are wasting less mana re-casting special shots that fail as well as small things like making sure the target is concussed for as long as possible meaning you may get range for an extra shot (which is almost definately going to do more damage than a melee attack).

I never really thought about how good +hit% was until now but I think a lot of people underestimate it.

Is there any links to how your weapon skill affects your %hit? I have seen some items with Bows+5 for example and am curious as to their usefulness (again, having mostly overlooked them before).

I like Daxi's post, so let's examine % hit gear.

Which is better:

Trinket of Agility
+15 Agility

Trinket of Deadly Accuracy
+1% chance to crit
+3% chance to hit

Let's say a character deals 200 DPS after all modifiers, and is firing 100 times, with an attack speed of 2.0. Say they have a base 5% chance to crit, and a base 96% chance to hit. Let's assume that the hunter is firing no special shots. It will take 200 seconds (3 minutes 20 seconds) to deliver this payload.

So 96 shots will hit, and each of those has a 5% chance to crit. So 96x0.05 = 4.8 shots will crit; the remaining 91.2 will hit for normal damage.

91.2 x 200/2.0 + 4.8 x 400/2.0 = 9120 + 960 = 10,080 damage over 200 seconds

With +0.285% chance to crit:

Since (96 x 0.05285) = 5.07
90.93 x 200/2.0 + 5.07 x 400/2.0 = 9093 + 1014 = 10,107 damage over 200 seconds

With +30 Attack Power (+2.1 DPS)

91.2 x 202.1/2.0 + 4.8 x 404.2/2.0 = 9215.76 + 970.8 = 10,185.84 damage over 200 seconds

Now bear in mind that +15 Agility grants (amongst other things) +30 Attack Power and +0.285% chance to crit:

10,080 + (10,107 - 10,080) + (10,185.84 - 10.080) = 10,080 + 27 + 105.84 = 10,212.84 damage over 200 seconds

With +3% chance to hit:

Since 99 shots will hit, 99x0.05 = 4.95 shots will crit, the remainder (94.05) will hit normally.

94.05 x 200/2.0 + 4.95 x 400/2.0 = 9405 + 990 = 10,395 damage over 200 seconds

With +1% chance to crit:

Since 99x0.06 = 5.94 shots will crit now, the remainder (93.06) will hit normally.

93.06 x 200/2.0 + 5.94 x 400/2.0 = 9306 + 1188 = 10,494 damage over 200 seconds

With +3% chance to hit and +1% chance to crit:

10,080 + (10,395 - 10,080) + (10,494 - 10,080) = 10,080 + 315 + 414 = 10,809 damage over 200 seconds.

So here, 15 agility grants 132.4 extra damage over 200 seconds, or +0.66 DPS. +3% chance to hit and +1% chance to crit grant 729 extra damage over 200 seconds, or +3.65 DPS. The trinket kicks ass.

Following on, I found this useful (stolen from a paid guide site originally that someone reposted on allakhazam). Seems to get a bit confused between spell to hit and normal to hit but it's an interesting point that made me rethink how useful +hit is for non-healing classes...

How does hitting/missing work?

Taken from MPS we know that you have a 96% chance to hit. As levels increase of the opponent you lose chance to hit accordingly:

Same level as you: 4% to miss
+1 level compared to you: 5% to miss
+2 levels compared to you: 6% miss
+3 levels compare to you: 17% miss on mobs, 13% on players

It continues with 11% on mobs and 7% on players until you can't hit them anymore.

This means that at level 60 you will need 4% hit vs lvl 60 mobs and players to be sure you won't miss. However, as most high-lvl raiders, there's bosses. Raidbosses are concidered lvl 63 by the game, meaning you need a whopping 17% +hit if you wanna make sure you hit them every time!

A final note for this should be that, although there is no official response on this, it's rumoured that +hit is capped at 99%, thus no matetr how much you aquire, there's always 1% chance to miss. This has, however, not been stated by an official source, but I personally agree with the theory, evidence suggests it's correct.

How good is +hit compared to other stats?

+hit is one of those stats that many people skip, because it's not visible. You don't get more crits with huge damage-points, nor does it increase your normal damage on spells like +dmg items do. The only thing it does is remove some of those nasty <resisted> messages. So, does that make it better or worse than other available stats? Well, let's look at it. Assuming you're a mage with talents to ensure your critical strikes do 100% damage (well, 110% for fire, but MEH!) we'll do the following math:

Over the course of 100 frostbolts vs Ragnaros you'll do:

With 20% crit-chance
83 frostbolts that do 457.5 damage on average
20% crits that do 457.5 damage on average if you're specced for it, 228.75 damage if you're not (this applies to spells that you aren't specced for as well). This means each frostbolt deals 549 dmg specced on average.

For every 1% +hit you get, you'll hit with another Frostbolt. That means another 457.5 damage. You'll also have a 20% chance to crit, thus, on average, do an additional 91.5damage specced and 45.75 damage unspecced. This means, in the end, that every 1% to hit does, average, 549 damage specced and 503.25 damage unspecced. In comparison to +crit, it's superior, because this is AN ADDITIONAL 549 damage specced/ 503.25 damage unspecced. 1% +crit would "only" provide 457.5/228.75 damage extra.

With +100dmg
83 Frostbolts do (457.5 + 81.4) 538.9 damage on average

For every 1% +hit you get, you thusly hit with 1 more frostbolt, dealing exactly the same damage, this being 538.9 damage. Thereby, 1%hit is 1% more damage, which means, in this case, 5.389 +dmg to your frostbolts. As Frost is affected by the +dmg modifier 81.4, we divide it by this, coming to the conclusion that it's equivalent to 5.389/0.814 = 6.62dmg. It should be obvious that, like crit, the mroe +dmg you have, the more you'll gain from 1% +hit. The formula is:

((Average damage dealt / 100) / modifier) x ((crit%/100) x (modifier for crits(this is 0.5 for non-talented schools, 1 for ice with 5/5 Ice Shards and 1.1 for 5/5 ignite) for the particular spell. The more +dmg you have, the more +dmg 1% +hit is.

So, what's the result? Well, it really depends on your gear and your spec. As you can see, if you're not specced for optimal dmg from crits, it's better than normally vs a +crit. However, no matter what, +hit is always better than +crit for your overall DPS and concistency. For comparison with your +dmg gear, use the above formula to calculate the need for +hit stats. Please bear in mind that you only need 4% (3% if you believe in the 99% cap) for PvP at lvl 60, and that it's mainly for PvE that this stat is extremely useful!

Please note that missing and getting resisted due to resistances are two completely different things! This causes confusion, as resistances can also cause opponents to resist fully instead of partially (always fully on binary spells like frost). The message displayed in these cases is the same: <resisted>. Why blizzard did this is unbeknownst to me, but hey- they did. Thus, things like Curse of Elements, Don Julio's Band, Rune of Perfection, Ring of Swarming Thought etc will NOT affect your chances to hit/miss. They WILL hoever lower your <resisted> messages, especially for frost-mages who have a bianry spell instead of normal like fire, that can "just" have 25%, 50% or 75% of the damage resisted as well as 100%.

Werl, I likes a good sword, it bein' an hofficers weapon. It good fer pointin' wiv, an' after a few beers I gets da axes stuck on me shield.

((OOC: As far as my characters go... Sageblade looks nice for warlocks (Zogjob), and any rare sword mages, though even Frail wields a staff nowadays for the Int bonus. Vitali likes daggers, so not relevant. Llocke is a staff man, and is more concerned about the stylishness of his hat; Int+Spi all the way for the padre.

Tinderloss likes a big two handed sword, but he's looking for large agility bonuses only, rather than % crit or attack power (see my thread on the subject), though if he hadn't found his current sword, Arcanite Reaper is nice for the AP Bonus...but 30 agility beats it hands down, which he can do if he saves up equivalent money for an agility enchant from the Morm.

Goff, as stated, likes swords, but will use anything suitably lethal. One handed for him tankwise as he needs a shield. Looks like there are slightly more one handed swords than axes, but I'm not sure if that's representative of any overall pattern across the game. From those patterns, I think Goff would also prefer those 1H swords to the 1H axes.))

Neither really affect me. If I could use swords, da sageblade is well nice.

I say go for what ya want. Ya said ya had some sword patterns already so dat might be better

Although the mats seem a bit nicer on da axes and there are at least two that make fine hunter weapons because of da attack power/crit bonus from what i've heard.
